Frequently asked
Everything people ask
before they book.
Grouped by what you're deciding: booking basics, site conditions, and how insurance claims work.
Booking a hire
How the hire itself works.
-
How much space do I need on my driveway?
The site needs a level, firm pad of at least 7 m × 3.5 m. The pod unit itself is 4 m × 2.25 m (excluding the drawbar) and the rest is clearance for the drawbar during positioning and access on each side. Clear overhead access for the trailer during delivery. Narrow laneway entries, steep driveways or low overhanging branches will rule the site out.
-
What do I need connected before you arrive?
An outdoor cold-water tap within 20 metres. Power is either a 10-amp outlet (Battery Pod) or a dedicated 15-amp circuit installed by the builder's electrician (15-Amp Pod). Grey-water is pumped out or discharged into a sewer-connected overflow relief gully where the property has one — never into the garden or into stormwater. Exact clearances are on the site requirements page.
-
How long can I hire the pod for?
Anything from about a week upwards. Send the dates and address and you get a firm quote back the same business day.
-
What if my renovation runs long?
Extensions are common. Get in touch as soon as dates start slipping and the extra weeks are quoted separately. No penalty for extending — the only real risk is another booking being queued for the pod, so give as much notice as you can.
-
When do I need to book?
Two weeks minimum for a standard hire, four weeks or more during peak renovation season (spring and autumn). Emergency and insurance placements are handled faster — call.
-
Do you take a deposit?
A booking deposit secures the pod for your dates; the balance is due on delivery. The deposit figure is confirmed with the quote.
Site conditions
Whether your site works — before you enquire.
-
What about apartments?
The pod is a driveway-and-yard product. Apartment sites usually can't accommodate it — no delivery access, no legal greywater discharge, no permission from the body corp. If you have off-street parking allocated to your unit and a body corp letter, it can sometimes work, but it's the exception.
-
What if I have no outdoor tap?
Options exist — an internal tap connection with a hose through a window, a temporary garden tap install by a plumber, or a rain-tank connection with a pressure pump. Send a photo of what you've got with your enquiry.
-
Can it sit on my nature strip?
In most Melbourne council areas, no — nature strips are council land and generally can't host a private structure without a permit. The driveway is where the pod lives.
-
Does it need council permission?
For a pod sitting on your own driveway, powered from your own outlet, generally not. Grey-water never goes into your garden or into stormwater — it's pumped out or discharged into a sewer-connected overflow relief gully where the property has one. Council rules on temporary structures vary; if your local area treats a hired kitchen differently, the enquiry response will tell you.
-
What happens in bad weather?
The pod is a weather-proofed insulated shell — same standards as any built kitchen. It works through Melbourne winter and summer without drama. Delivery is postponed if a storm makes trailer positioning unsafe.
Insurance claims
For adjusters, insurance builders and restoration firms.
-
Do you invoice insurers directly?
Yes, direct to the insurer or the builder handling the claim, not the resident. Standard 14-day payment terms; net terms negotiable on volume.
-
How fast can you place a pod on a claim?
Standard placements 3–5 business days from firm instruction. Emergency placements are faster — call for real-time availability.
-
Do you supply during flood, fire and escape-of-liquid claims?
Yes. The pod is the same product across cause codes — the invoicing arrangement is what changes. Coverage under any specific policy is determined by the resident's PDS, and this site holds no AFSL — general information only.
-
Is a capability pack available?
Yes — public liability certificate, ABN, ACN and licensing on a single PDF for supplier onboarding. Emailed on request.
Full capability details on the For Insurers page.
